West Hartford Student Camden Seigel Dies After Hartford Shooting

HARTFORD, Conn. — A 17-year-old student from West Hartford Public Schools has died days after a shooting in downtown Hartford, authorities confirmed. The tragic loss of Camden Seigel has left classmates, teachers, and the wider community grieving as investigators continue working to determine what led to the gunfire.

According to the Hartford Police Department, officers were near Ann Street around 1:49 a.m. Sunday when they heard multiple gunshots. Police immediately responded to the area and located Seigel suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors fought to save his life. Despite those efforts, police confirmed he was pronounced deceased on Tuesday.

Authorities also reported that a second victim, a man in his twenties, arrived at a hospital separately following the shooting. He remains in critical but stable condition. Investigators have not released details about a suspect or whether the victims knew each other, but they emphasized that the case remains active and ongoing. Detectives are reviewing evidence and asking anyone with information to come forward.

The loss has deeply affected the school community. In a statement to families, Superintendent Paul Vicinus of West Hartford Public Schools said several district students were present when the shooting occurred. He extended condolences to Seigel’s family and acknowledged the profound emotional impact the tragedy has had on students, staff, and loved ones.

School officials said counselors and support staff are available to help students cope with grief and trauma. Parents are being encouraged to talk openly with their children about the incident and to seek additional support if needed. Community members have also begun sharing tributes and messages of sympathy, remembering Seigel as a young person whose life ended far too soon.

As the investigation continues, Hartford police remain focused on identifying those responsible and understanding the circumstances that led to the deadly shooting. Meanwhile, two communities — Hartford and West Hartford — are united in mourning, hoping for answers and healing in the wake of a heartbreaking and senseless act of violence.
