ST. GEORGE, La. — The St. George community is grappling with heartbreak after the tragic death of 20-year-old Caleb Carter, whose life was cut short Monday evening in an accidental shooting involving a friend. According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, the shooting took place at approximately 9:20 p.m. on the second floor of the Perkins Rowe parking garage, located behind the Cinemark movie theater. Deputies who responded to the scene discovered that Caleb Carter had been shot and was later pronounced deceased. Deputies reported that 20-year-old Chad Howard, a friend of Caleb’s, told investigators the firearm discharged accidentally, striking Caleb. During the investigation, law enforcement discovered the gun involved—a firearm previously reported stolen—had been thrown onto another level of the parking garage.
