Thomas O’Neil & Brianna Bruno, Including Child, in Hattiesburg Murder-Suicide

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Authorities have released new details surrounding a tragic incident that left three people dead inside a home on 7th Avenue, including a young child. The Hattiesburg Police Department confirmed that officers responded to a welfare check at a residence in the 500 block of 7th Avenue on January 27, 2026, where they made the devastating discovery.

According to police, officers entered the home during the welfare check and found three individuals deceased inside. Detectives and crime scene investigators were immediately called to the scene to begin a thorough investigation into what happened. At the time, officials said there was no danger to the public, and the incident appeared to be isolated.

The two adult victims were later identified as Thomas O’Neil, 37, and Brianna Bruno, 32. A three-year-old child, who was related to both adults, was also found dead inside the residence. Authorities initially withheld the identities of the victims until next of kin could be properly notified.

Autopsies were conducted on January 29, 2026, providing clarity on the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The results revealed that O’Neil and the three-year-old child died from gunshot wounds, and their deaths were ruled homicides. Investigators determined that Bruno also died from a gunshot wound; however, her death was ruled a suicide.
