PITTSFORD, Vt. — A 21-year-old Vermont man reported missing Tuesday morning was found dead after his vehicle crashed off the roadway in Pittsford, authorities confirmed. The victim was identified as Benjamin Adams, whose body was discovered following a single-vehicle accident that occurred near the intersection of Vermont Route 3 and U.S. Route 7.
According to Vermont State Police, Adams was reported missing earlier on February 3, 2026. Troopers immediately began efforts to locate him, coordinating with local authorities and the public to search the area. During these efforts, a member of the public came across a vehicle off the roadway around 11 a.m., prompting emergency responders to the scene.
Investigators said Adams was found unresponsive inside the vehicle. Despite the response of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released details about whether anyone else was involved in the crash.
Preliminary reports indicate that Adams had been driving a Toyota 4Runner northbound on Route 3 when the vehicle left the roadway. Vermont State Police said the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, and officials are working to determine whether factors such as road conditions, mechanical failure, or other circumstances contributed to the incident.
Troopers urged residents and travelers in the area to exercise caution, especially on rural roads where visibility, curves, and winter conditions can increase the risk of accidents. Officials did not indicate that alcohol or drugs were involved but said a full report will follow after further examination of the crash scene and vehicle.
Family, friends, and members of the Pittsford community are mourning the sudden loss of Adams. Authorities have asked anyone with information about the crash or who may have seen the vehicle prior to the incident to contact the Vermont State Police to assist with the ongoing investigation.
