A deadly pedestrian collision in Henrico has claimed the life of a 62-year-old local woman, leaving family members, neighbors, and the wider community mourning a sudden and heartbreaking loss. The crash happened Tuesday evening at a busy intersection, prompting an active investigation by Henrico Police.
Authorities identified the victim as Barbara Ann Jones, 62, who lived in Henrico. Police said officers were called to the intersection of Glenside Drive and Inglewood Street at approximately 5:55 p.m. after receiving reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the situation was already critical.
When officers reached the scene, Jones was found suffering from severe, life-threatening injuries. Despite immediate response efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene, police confirmed. The crash occurred during the evening hours, a time when traffic volumes can be high and visibility may begin to decline.
Investigators said Jones was crossing the northbound lanes of Glenside Drive alongside a man when the collision occurred. Police reported that a Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling through the area and attempted to slow down as the pedestrians entered the roadway. The driver then swerved in an effort to avoid hitting them.
During that maneuver, the vehicle struck Jones, resulting in fatal injuries. The man who was crossing with her was not hit and did not require medical treatment. Police have not released further details about whether the pedestrians were in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.
Henrico Police said the driver remained at the scene following the collision and has been fully cooperative with investigators. At this time, no charges have been announced. The Henrico Police Crash Team Investigators continue to review evidence, examine the scene, and determine what factors contributed to the crash.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to contact Henrico Police or submit tips anonymously through local Crime Stoppers channels. As the investigation continues, police are urging both drivers and pedestrians to stay alert, slow down, and use extra caution at intersections, especially during evening hours when the risk of serious accidents can increase.
