PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — The Parkersburg community is mourning the tragic loss of Austin Lamb, an adult male who was fatally shot early Saturday morning inside a home on the 1000 block of 40th Street. The sudden violence has left family, friends, and neighbors grieving while authorities continue their investigation.
According to the Parkersburg Police Department, officers responded at approximately 12:10 a.m. on February 28, 2026, after receiving reports that Lamb had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. First responders, including personnel from the Parkersburg Fire Department and emergency medical services, rendered aid immediately and continued life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, Lamb succumbed to his injuries at the residence. His next of kin have been notified.
During the response, authorities gathered information identifying a potential suspect. Officers from the Parkersburg Police Department, working alongside deputies from the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, located and detained 19-year-old Claudia Torres of Clarksburg at approximately 12:19 a.m., roughly one mile from the scene.
Torres has been charged with First-Degree Murder in connection with the fatal shooting. She was processed at the Parkersburg Police Department before being transported to the Wood County Holding Center, where she is being held pending arraignment in Wood County Magistrate Court.
