BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. — The community of Oneonta is mourning the loss of 35-year-old Austin L. Bates, who was killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash Tuesday evening in Blount County. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirmed the fatal accident, which occurred shortly before 7 p.m., leaving family, friends, and neighbors in deep grief over his sudden passing.
According to Alabama State Troopers, the crash happened around 6:42 p.m. on Blount County Road 20 near Rogers Road, roughly five miles east of Oneonta. Bates was riding a 1947 Indian Chief motorcycle when he lost control, veered off the roadway, and struck a tree. The impact was severe, and despite the swift arrival of emergency responders, Bates was pronounced dead at the scene.
