Jayess Man Anthony Case fatally struck by fallen tree in Lawrence County

The community of Lawrence County is mourning the tragic loss of Anthony Case, a 56-year-old resident of Jayess, who died following a devastating crash Wednesday night. The sudden accident has left family members, friends, and neighbors grieving the loss of a man whose life ended far too soon.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred on March 11 at approximately 9:30 p.m. along Highway 27 in Lawrence County. Authorities reported that Anthony Case was driving a 2022 Toyota Venza southbound on the highway when his vehicle struck a fallen tree that was blocking the roadway.

Investigators said the tree had fallen across the road before the collision occurred, creating a sudden and dangerous obstruction for drivers traveling through the area. When Case’s vehicle reached the location, it collided with the tree, causing severe damage and leaving the driver seriously injured.

Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to the scene after the crash was reported. First responders worked to secure the roadway and assess the situation upon arrival. Despite their efforts and the immediate response, officials later confirmed that Anthony Case sadly died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the collision.

Crashes involving roadway hazards such as fallen trees can occur unexpectedly, particularly during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced. Drivers may have little time to react when encountering obstacles on dark roadways, making these types of incidents especially dangerous.

Troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials say they are working to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the collision and whether any additional factors may have contributed to the tragic outcome. As the investigation continues, the Lawrence County community remembers Anthony Case and keeps his loved ones in their thoughts during this difficult time.
