WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita community is in shock after former FOX2 St. Louis morning news anchor Angelynn “Angie” Mock, 47, was arrested for allegedly stabbing her mother, 80-year-old Anita Avers, to death inside their home on Friday morning. Mock, who has claimed she acted in self-defense, was taken into custody following the tragic incident that unfolded on November 1, 2025.
According to a news release from the Wichita Police Department, officers responded around 8 a.m. to a reported stabbing in the 1500 block of East Crowley Street. When they arrived, they found Mock outside the residence with her body and hands covered in blood. Inside, officers discovered her mother, Anita Avers, in bed suffering from multiple stab wounds. Emergency crews transported Avers to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Authorities say Mock herself called 911, telling dispatchers she had stabbed her mother “to save herself.” Officers detained her at the scene and took her to a hospital for evaluation before booking her into the Sedgwick County Jail on a first-degree murder charge, according to online jail records. Police said the investigation remains ongoing, and they have not released further details about what led up to the violent confrontation.
Neighbors recounted a disturbing scene that morning. One witness told KAKE News that Mock ran out of the house visibly distraught, pleading for help. “She had blood all over her and was shaking,” the neighbor said. “She looked terrified and just kept saying she needed to call 911.” The community has been left stunned by the tragedy, which took place in what residents describe as a quiet neighborhood.
Mock was best known for her work as a morning anchor and reporter for FOX2 St. Louis between 2011 and 2015. After leaving broadcast journalism, she transitioned into the corporate world, working in data management consulting. Her decision to leave television and pursue a different career path remains unclear.
The victim, Anita Avers, was a well-respected licensed clinical marriage and family therapist with over two decades of experience. She specialized in treating trauma, anxiety, and family conflict through her practice at Wichita Counseling Professionals. Friends and colleagues describe Avers as compassionate and deeply dedicated to helping others — a legacy now overshadowed by tragedy.
