27-Year-Old Inverness Man Killed in fatal I-75 Overpass crash in Sumter County

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities are investigating a fatal crash on Interstate 75 that claimed the life of a 27-year-old man from Inverness on Friday morning. The Florida Highway Patrol identified the victim as Alex L. Anderson, who was pronounced dead at the scene following the violent collision.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just after 10 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, near the County Road 462 overpass. Troopers said Anderson was driving a Honda Accord when, for reasons still unknown, the vehicle left the overpass and fell into the southbound lanes of I-75.

Investigators said the Honda struck a Volvo SUV that was traveling southbound on the interstate before coming to rest on the roadway. The driver of the Volvo, a 61-year-old man from Georgia, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Anderson suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that there is no indication of impairment or foul play at this time. Troopers said they are continuing to investigate what caused the vehicle to leave the overpass, noting that the circumstances remain unclear.

The crash caused temporary lane closures on southbound I-75 as first responders secured the scene, assisted the injured driver, and removed damaged vehicles. Motorists experienced traffic delays in the area for several hours while the roadway was partially closed and investigators documented evidence.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the investigation remains ongoing as troopers examine possible contributing factors, including roadway conditions, vehicle mechanics, and potential medical issues. Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or may have relevant information to contact the Florida Highway Patrol. Officials say their goal is to determine exactly what happened and help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
