STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford police are investigating the death of a man found unresponsive in a parked vehicle Tuesday afternoon. Authorities identified the deceased as 43-year-old Mark Pjetri, a resident of Stamford. The incident occurred around 1:50 p.m. at the intersection of Avery Street and Cove Road, prompting a heavy response from emergency services.
According to the Stamford Police Department, a concerned passerby noticed the man inside a vehicle and attempted to wake him by knocking on the windows. When the man did not respond, the witness called 911. Officers arrived at the scene along with members of the Stamford Fire Department and Stamford Emergency Medical Services. Pjetri was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said that an investigation is underway to determine what caused Pjetri’s sudden death. At this stage, it is unclear whether any criminal activity was involved. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is scheduled to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. The results of that examination are expected to guide the direction of the investigation moving forward.
The vehicle was located in a relatively busy area, leading many local residents to express concern. Investigators have not yet said how long the vehicle had been parked there or whether there were any signs of distress or forced entry. Officers were seen examining the scene and speaking with potential witnesses nearby.
Police are encouraging anyone who may have seen anything unusual in the area earlier in the day to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Boeger of the Stamford Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Squad “B” at 203-977-4421. Even minor details could help authorities determine what happened in the moments leading up to Pjetri’s death.
The Stamford community is now left searching for answers as they await further information from the ongoing investigation. As officials continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident, friends and family of Mark Pjetri are mourning his unexpected loss. Police say more updates will be released once the autopsy is complete and additional facts are gathered in the coming days.
