82-Year-Old George Sanborn Killed in Weekend Hit-and-Run in Russellville

Arkansas State Police officials have identified the man killed in a hit-and-run over the weekend, leaving a Russellville family grieving and investigators searching for answers. Authorities confirmed that 82-year-old George Sanborn, a longtime resident of Russellville, died after being struck by a vehicle on Saturday, November 15.

Troopers were called to State Highway 326 in the Happy Valley community after reports came in of a pedestrian being hit near the Gum Log area north of Russellville. When first responders arrived, they found Sanborn critically injured from the impact. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was airlifted to a hospital in Little Rock, where he passed away the following day, Sunday, November 16.

According to Arkansas State Police, the suspect vehicle was traveling westbound on Highway 326 at the time of the incident. Investigators believe the vehicle may have noticeable damage on the driver’s side, which could help the public assist in identifying it. Officials have not yet released further details on the make or model, but they are urging local residents and drivers in the area to remain alert for any vehicle showing fresh damage.

The hit-and-run has deeply shaken the surrounding communities of Happy Valley and Gum Log, where residents say the highway is often traveled but lacks adequate lighting in some areas. With no driver coming forward and no arrests made, investigators are now relying on tips, witness statements, and any available surveillance footage to track down the person responsible.

Arkansas State Police are asking anyone who may have seen the incident, spotted a damaged vehicle, or has information about the driver to contact authorities immediately. Even small pieces of information could help move the investigation forward and bring answers to Sanborn’s family.

As the investigation continues, officials emphasize the seriousness of leaving the scene of an accident—especially one involving life-threatening injuries. They hope that with the public’s help, they will soon identify the driver and provide the victim’s loved ones with the justice they deserve.
