CLEARLAKE, Calif. — The Clearlake community is reeling after the tragic deaths of Terry Harris and Desiree Fuentes, who were found unresponsive during a traffic stop early Sunday morning. The shocking discovery has led authorities to launch a homicide investigation, leaving residents searching for answers.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s Clear Lake Area office, the incident began around 8:50 a.m. when an officer pulled over a gray Chevy Suburban on State Route 53 at Dam Road for a registration violation. The vehicle eventually stopped on 18th Avenue, where the situation quickly took a disturbing turn.
While speaking with the driver, officers noticed what appeared to be fresh blood inside the front portion of the vehicle. This observation raised immediate concern, prompting a closer inspection. As officers followed the signs toward the rear passenger area, they discovered Terry Harris and Desiree Fuentes unresponsive inside the vehicle.
Emergency responders were called to the scene, but both individuals were later confirmed dead. Authorities have not yet released details about how they died, but the circumstances have led investigators to treat the case as a homicide.
Officials say the incident appears to be isolated, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The CHP’s Northern Division Investigative Services Unit has taken the lead in the case, working closely with the Lake County District Attorney’s Office and the Clearlake Police Department to gather evidence and determine what happened.
Harris and Fuentes are being remembered as kind, caring, and vibrant individuals who touched many lives. Their sudden deaths have left loved ones devastated, as the community comes together to mourn and support those affected. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Lt. Dan Fansler at the Clear Lake CHP Office as the investigation continues.
