The shocking nature of the case has left residents in disbelief and mourning the loss of a young woman whose life was taken far too soon.
According to authorities, North Port police responded to a 911 call around 11:27 a.m. Sunday from 46-year-old Coy Pearson Bothwell. During the call, Bothwell reportedly claimed there had been a burglary and told dispatchers that a woman had entered the home with scissors and was unresponsive. The call raised immediate concern, prompting officers to respond quickly to the residence.
When officers arrived, they discovered Schiessl lying near the front entryway inside the home. She was unresponsive and had suffered fatal injuries. Emergency personnel attempted to render aid, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators quickly determined that the circumstances surrounding her death were suspicious, leading to a homicide investigation.
Authorities detained Bothwell at the scene and later charged him with second-degree murder without premeditation. According to a probable cause affidavit, he waived his Miranda rights and spoke with detectives. During questioning, investigators say Bothwell admitted that Schiessl had been living with him as a roommate for approximately two months prior to the incident.
Detectives reported that Bothwell confessed to attacking Schiessl with multiple objects, including a kitchen knife, scissors, and golf clubs. He allegedly described repeatedly striking her and restraining her until she died. Officials noted that his statements did not suggest any form of self-defense, further intensifying the seriousness of the case.

Friends, family, and loved ones are grieving a life cut short in such a violent manner, remembering her as someone who meant so much to those around her.
