BURLINGTON, Ky. — The Burlington community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 16-year-old Zachary Snyder, who was killed in a tragic single-vehicle crash late Sunday night on Bullittsville Road in Hebron. The devastating incident has left family, friends, and classmates in deep sorrow.
According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 10:34 p.m. and involved a 2015 Honda Accord. Authorities reported that Snyder, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and became trapped underneath. Despite emergency response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the 17-year-old driver failed to navigate a sharp right-hand curve, causing the vehicle to cross the center line. The driver then overcorrected, which sent the car off the roadway. The vehicle struck multiple trees before overturning, resulting in significant damage.
The driver and two backseat passengers, ages 17 and 18, were able to exit the vehicle on their own. They were transported to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities have not released their identities but confirmed they are expected to recover.
Officials noted that speed is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash. Additionally, investigators stated that neither Snyder nor the driver were wearing seatbelts at the time, which may have contributed to the severity of the outcome.
Bullittsville Road was shut down for several hours as the Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team processed the scene and gathered evidence. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine all contributing factors. Meanwhile, the Boone County community continues to mourn the loss of a young life taken far too soon, holding Snyder’s loved ones in their thoughts during this difficult time.
