HARTFORD CITY, Ind. — The Hartford City community is mourning the tragic and untimely loss of 19-year-old Gavyn Orlando, who was killed Sunday afternoon in a devastating crash in Wells County. According to authorities, emergency crews were dispatched around 2:47 p.m. on April 5, 2026, to a crash on County Road 200 West near County Road 1200 South. Investigators reported that a white 2018 BMW, driven by 21-year-old Hunter Cooper of Hartford City, was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when it crossed from Blackford County into Wells County.
Officials say Cooper lost control of the vehicle, causing it to cross the center line and strike a utility pole on the passenger side with significant force. The impact snapped the pole in half, and the vehicle then rolled into a nearby field, leaving a scene of severe damage and chaos.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and began assisting those involved. Gavyn Orlando, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, 20-year-old Anthony Dalley of Montpelier, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and transported to a hospital with injuries.
