RAYMOND, ME — A heartbreaking crash involving a motorcycle and two SUVs has claimed the life of a 20-year-old man, leaving a small Maine community in deep sorrow. The tragic incident unfolded Monday evening at a busy intersection, sending shockwaves through residents and first responders.
According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Webbs Mills Road (Route 85) and Tarkiln Hill Road. Investigators said Seth Hodgkins of Greenwood was traveling north on Route 85 on his motorcycle when he collided with a southbound 2012 Toyota RAV4.
Authorities reported that the RAV4, driven by 23-year-old Seth Thayer of Raymond, was attempting to make a left turn onto Tarkiln Hill Road at the time. The crash caused Hodgkins to be thrown from his motorcycle, placing him directly in the path of another vehicle traveling behind the SUV.
Moments later, Hodgkins was struck by a second vehicle, a 2015 GMC Terrain driven by 55-year-old Christopher Akers of Casco. The impact left him with severe injuries, and despite the quick response of emergency crews, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials confirmed that Hodgkins was wearing a helmet, and alcohol is not believed to have played a role in the crash.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Windham Police Department’s crash reconstruction team, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities are working to determine exactly how the crash unfolded and whether any additional factors contributed to the tragic outcome.
Hodgkins was a dedicated EMT with the Buckfield Fire Rescue Department, where he was known for his willingness to help others and his kind spirit. In a heartfelt message, Chief Blaquiere described him as more than a coworker—he was a friend and a dependable responder who answered every call without hesitation. His sudden loss has left a lasting void in the department and the community he served so selflessly.
