A tragic domestic violence incident in Warrior left the community grieving Thursday morning after authorities confirmed the death of 29-year-old Shelby Amidon. Amidon, who was pregnant with her second child, was found dead at a residence on Beaver Trail following reports of a domestic disturbance.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, deputies responded to the home at approximately 8:30 a.m. on March 19. Upon arrival, they discovered Amidon had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Her death has left family, friends, and neighbors in deep shock and mourning, as she was remembered as a devoted mother and loving member of the community.
Investigators identified the suspect as 43-year-old Ricky O’Neil Beck Jr., also a resident of Warrior. Authorities reported that Beck fled the scene in a vehicle as a Blount County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived. During the encounter, Beck allegedly struck the deputy’s patrol vehicle and displayed a firearm, prompting the deputy to discharge his weapon.
Following the confrontation, Beck continued to flee, leading authorities on a manhunt in the area near Mountain Lake Road, Beaver Trail, and Alabama State Route 160. The search concluded when Beck was located in a wooded area with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Amidon is survived by her husband, Nick Amidon, and their young son, Cayson Amidon. Family, friends, and community members have established a fundraiser to support the family, raising more than $12,000 to assist with funeral expenses, memorial costs, and future financial support for her child. The campaign described Amidon as “a beautiful soul who brought love, warmth, and light to those around her.”
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Bureau of Investigation is leading the ongoing investigation into the officer-involved aspects of the case. Once completed, findings will be submitted to the Blount County District Attorney for review. Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident as the community comes to terms with the devastating loss of Shelby Amidon and the events that unfolded that morning.
