The Rowan County, Kentucky community is grieving the tragic loss of 30-year-old Donovan Kyle Porter of Olive Hill, who died following a vehicle crash on Friday, March 20, 2026. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and neighbors struggling to come to terms with the devastating news.
According to the Kentucky State Police, the incident began around 8:45 p.m. when a KSP Post 8 trooper in Bath County observed a gray 2017 Chevrolet Camaro speeding on I-64 near the 128-mile marker. The trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to yield and accelerated, prompting a police pursuit.
The Camaro exited I-64 at exit 133 and continued fleeing on KY 801. Troopers temporarily ended the pursuit around 8:50 p.m. after losing sight of the vehicle but remained in the area patrolling. Local reports indicated that a vehicle matching the Camaro’s description was traveling south on KY 801. Around 9:00 p.m., a trooper located the vehicle again and attempted a second traffic stop, which led to another pursuit.
As the vehicle approached the intersection of KY 801 and KY 519 at approximately 9:05 p.m., Donovan lost control, causing the Camaro to veer off the roadway and strike a utility pole. The vehicle caught fire and was fully engulfed in flames. Troopers attempted to rescue Donovan, but they were unable to remove him from the burning vehicle.
The Rowan County Coroner’s Office pronounced Donovan Kyle Porter dead at the scene. His body was later transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
