78-Year-Old Margaret Lenthe killed in fatal Portage Township Crash on State Route 2

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A tragic crash on March 21, 2026, claimed the life of 78-year-old Margaret Lenthe of Lakeside Marblehead, Ohio, leaving the community shaken and prompting a multi-agency investigation. The fatal incident occurred at 9:42 a.m. on State Route 2 near mile marker 122 in Ottawa County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Sandusky Post, Ms. Lenthe was driving a 2005 Ford Focus westbound when she veered off the left side of the roadway. Her vehicle entered the median, struck the raised center median, and became airborne, landing in the eastbound lanes in a catastrophic turn of events.

The airborne vehicle collided with a 2021 Toyota Tacoma driven eastbound by 56-year-old Raymond Roberts of Hazel Park, Michigan. Both Roberts and his passenger, Todd Prosky, were wearing seat belts and sustained only minor injuries that did not require hospital transport. Unfortunately, Ms. Lenthe, who was not wearing a safety belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency responders and investigators from several agencies rushed to the scene, including the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Port Clinton Fire Department, Port Clinton Police Department, and the Ottawa County Coroner’s Office. Recovery and cleanup were assisted by Don’s Towing Service, Greer’s Towing Service, and Walker Funeral Home.

Authorities have emphasized that the crash remains under investigation as they continue to determine the circumstances that led to this fatal incident. Officials urge drivers to remain vigilant on State Route 2 and to always follow safety measures, including wearing seat belts, to prevent similar tragedies.

The loss of Margaret Lenthe is a stark reminder of how quickly life can change on the road. While Mr. Roberts and his passenger survived with minor injuries, the community mourns the untimely death of a senior resident whose life was tragically cut short in a moment that began like any other morning drive.
