Amanda Thompson Killed in Family Violence Homicide in Rusk County

RUSK COUNTY, Texas — The Rusk County community is grieving the tragic and sudden loss of Amanda Thompson, whose life was taken in an act of violence on Wednesday afternoon. Family, friends, and neighbors are in shock, struggling to come to terms with a devastating tragedy that has shaken the community.

Authorities confirmed that Amanda was found fatally harmed during a welfare check at a residence off County Road 3122. According to Rusk County Sheriff Johnwayne Valdez, deputies responded to the call out of concern for her well-being, only to encounter a scene of tragedy. What began as a routine check quickly became a full-scale homicide investigation.

Sheriff Valdez later confirmed that the case stemmed from family violence, underscoring the dangers that can occur behind closed doors. Officials emphasized the seriousness of domestic conflicts and the devastating consequences that can occur when disagreements escalate into violence. Investigators immediately worked to identify a suspect. Surveillance footage showed an individual leaving the residence shortly before deputies arrived. Using vehicle tracking and phone activity, authorities determined that the suspect was heading out of state, prompting swift action from law enforcement.

The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office coordinated with the U.S. Marshals and Arkansas State Police to track the suspect. By approximately 9 p.m. that evening, officers located and took the suspect into custody in Russellville, Arkansas, without further incident.

The suspect has been identified as Scott Raymond Thompson, who is currently being held in the Pope County Jail in Arkansas. He has been charged with murder, and authorities confirmed that extradition proceedings will follow so he can face justice in Rusk County. As the community mourns Amanda’s loss, neighbors, friends, and loved ones are coming together to support one another while law enforcement continues its investigation.
