18-Year-Old Loyola University Student, Sheridan Gorman Fatally Shot in Rogers Park

The Chicago community is mourning after a fatal overnight shooting claimed the life of 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman, a student at Loyola University Chicago. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning near the lakefront, leaving family, friends, and fellow students in shock and grief over the sudden loss of a young life.

According to the Chicago Police Department, officers responded at approximately 1:30 a.m. to reports of a person shot near the intersection of Sheridan Road and Pratt Boulevard, close to Tobey Prinz Beach Park and Columbia Beach. Loyola University Police joined the response, and upon arrival, officers found Gorman suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary reports indicate that Gorman had been walking with a group of friends along the lakefront when an unidentified male approached and opened fire before fleeing on foot. No other individuals were injured in the incident. The sudden nature of the attack has left the local community and university students shaken, as they try to process the violent loss of a peer and member of their community.

At this time, authorities have not released a suspect description, and no arrests have been made. The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and detectives assigned to Area Three are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding Gorman’s death. Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.

In a statement, Mark C. Reed, president of Loyola University Chicago, confirmed that Gorman was a student and expressed profound sorrow over the loss. University officials stated there is no known ongoing threat to students, faculty, or staff. Counseling and support services have been made available for those affected, while a vigil is scheduled at the Madonna della Strada Chapel to honor Gorman’s memory.

Campus Safety officials continue to work closely with the Chicago Police Department as the investigation moves forward. The Rogers Park neighborhood and the Loyola University community are coming together in grief, remembering the young student whose life was cut tragically short. Authorities emphasize that the case remains active and are committed to finding those responsible for this senseless act of violence.
