Driver, Daniel Arnold killed in Fatal Tractor-Trailer Crash on Interstate 75 in Macon

Authorities have identified the driver who tragically lost his life after a tractor-trailer crash Monday night along a busy highway in Macon. The deadly accident occurred on the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near the Riverside Drive exit, drawing a heavy response from emergency crews and causing significant traffic delays as investigators worked at the scene.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened shortly before 8 p.m. on March 9. Deputies say the tractor-trailer was traveling southbound when the driver appeared to lose control of the vehicle. The large truck then veered off the roadway and struck an embankment before overturning, leaving the vehicle badly damaged along the highway.

When first responders arrived, they found the driver trapped inside the overturned tractor-trailer. Authorities confirmed that the driver had suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash quickly prompted road closures as deputies and emergency crews secured the area and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Officials initially withheld the driver’s identity until family members could be notified. On Tuesday, the victim was identified as Daniel Arnold, a 42-year-old man. The identification was confirmed by Leon Jones, the coroner for Macon-Bibb County, who said Arnold’s next of kin had been informed about the tragic loss.

The crash caused major traffic disruptions along Interstate 75 for several hours Monday night. Authorities closed parts of the southbound lanes while investigators examined the wreckage and crews worked to remove the overturned truck from the roadway. At the time of the initial report, only one lane had reopened, and traffic delays were expected to continue until around 11 p.m.

Investigators say the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officials are working to determine what may have caused the driver to lose control of the tractor-trailer. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 and ask to speak with a fatality investigator.
