The community of Quincy is mourning the tragic death of 56-year-old Shane C. McDermott, who was fatally shot on the evening of March 4, 2026. The heartbreaking incident occurred at the former LaGondola building located at the corner of 8th and State streets. According to the Adams County Coroner’s Office, McDermott was transported to the emergency department at Blessing Hospital after the incident, where he was later pronounced dead. Police say officers from the Quincy Police Department were dispatched to the former restaurant building shortly before 6:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a burglary in progress. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered McDermott inside the building. He was unresponsive and appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound, prompting officers to immediately call for medical assistance.
