Suspect Arrested After Three Women Found Dead Across Wayne County

Residents of Wayne County are mourning after three women were found dead at multiple locations across the county in a tragic case that has shaken the small community. Authorities confirmed that a suspect, 23-year-old Ivan Miller from Iowa, has been taken into custody in connection with the deaths. While officials have not yet released the victims’ names, they say the loss has left families and residents across the region heartbroken as investigators work to uncover what led to the violent events.

According to investigators, the disturbing situation first came to light Wednesday afternoon when authorities received emergency calls at around 4:30 p.m. reporting that two women had been found dead along a hiking trail in the county. Officials said the calls were reportedly made by the victims’ husbands after they discovered the women and immediately alerted law enforcement. Deputies and emergency crews quickly responded to the remote area and began securing the scene as investigators started collecting evidence.

As officers continued working at the trail, officials later confirmed that a third woman had been found dead inside a home elsewhere in Wayne County. The discovery expanded the investigation into multiple locations, prompting a large response from law enforcement agencies. Authorities said the victims included a woman in her 30s, a woman in her 60s, and a woman in her 80s. All three were residents of Utah, and their identities are being withheld while officials notify their families.

Investigators soon identified Ivan Miller as a suspect in the case. Authorities said Miller allegedly stole a vehicle belonging to one of the victims discovered along the trail. Law enforcement tracked the vehicle as it traveled through southern Utah and into northern Arizona during the search. The car was eventually located abandoned in Pagosa Springs, where officers launched a search operation to locate the suspect.

Police used drones and other search resources to scan the area. After a brief search, Miller was located and taken into custody without incident. According to the Pagosa Springs Police Department, the suspect was carrying a concealed handgun and a large knife when officers arrested him. He is currently being held at the Archuleta County Detention Center on a weapons-related charge as investigators continue building their case.

The homicide investigation is being led by the Utah Department of Public Safety and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. Officials say Miller had no known prior relationship with the victims, and investigators are still working to determine how long he had been in Utah before the tragedy occurred. In response to the shocking events, the Wayne County School District canceled classes for two days and will provide counseling when students return, as the grieving community searches for answers.
