BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. — A tragic two-vehicle crash in Boyle County on Tuesday night has left one man dead and a local deputy injured. The collision, which occurred at a well-traveled intersection, is now under investigation as authorities work to determine exactly what led to the fatal impact.
According to the Kentucky State Police, the crash happened just before 9:30 p.m. on March 3 at the intersection of Hustonville Road and West Shelby Street. Preliminary findings show that Boyle County Deputy Zach King was traveling northbound and attempting to make a left turn onto West Shelby Street when the collision occurred.
Investigators say a southbound vehicle driven by 27-year-old Michael Mingey of Lancaster entered the intersection at the same time. Authorities believe Mingey allegedly disregarded a traffic control device before striking the deputy’s vehicle. The impact caused heavy damage and brought emergency responders quickly to the scene to assist both drivers.
Mingey was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment following the crash. Despite efforts by medical staff, he later died from the injuries he sustained. His death has left family members and the local community grieving. Deputy King was also taken to the hospital, where he was treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening. Officials have not released additional details about his condition.
