Pedestrian struck to death While Crossing Street in Wheelchair in Nashville

NASHVILLE, TN — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred Monday on Gallatin Pike. The victim, 75-year-old Naomi Mangrum, was struck while crossing the street in a wheelchair, despite having the walk signal, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department. Her sudden death has left family, friends, and the community mourning.

Mangrum was immediately transported to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, she succumbed to her injuries the following morning. Authorities say her passing has prompted an ongoing investigation into the events that led to the tragic incident.

Police identified the driver involved as 31-year-old Katelyn Rountree from Michigan. According to authorities, Rountree told officers she was looking at her phone’s GPS at the time of the accident and did not see Mangrum crossing the street. Rountree was arrested at the scene and charged with failure to yield the right of way resulting in serious injury. She was later released on a $1,000 bond.

The accident forced the temporary closure of Gallatin Pike South near East Palestine Avenue as investigators reviewed the scene and gathered evidence. Officers conducted interviews, collected witness statements, and examined traffic patterns to determine the circumstances that contributed to the fatal collision.

The Metro Nashville Police Department continues to investigate the case. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has information about the incident to contact the department.
