20-year-old Joshua Powers Killed in Early Morning Jack County Crash

JACK COUNTY, Texas — A tragic single-vehicle crash in Jack County has claimed the life of 20-year-old Joshua James Powers of Breckenridge. The deadly wreck occurred early Friday morning on FM Road 4, approximately 10 miles south of Jacksboro, leaving family, friends, and the community grieving.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Powers was driving a 1991 GMC C2500 truck southbound at around 6:26 a.m. Authorities said he failed to maintain a single lane, began traveling on the wrong side of the road, and entered the east ditch. In an attempt to regain control, Powers veered back to the west, causing the truck to skid across both lanes.

The vehicle ultimately went into the west ditch and rolled. Officials confirmed that Powers, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the truck and sustained fatal injuries. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities said the crash was violent and left the roadway in need of clearing before it could reopen to traffic.

The Texas Highway Patrol is actively investigating the crash to determine all contributing factors. Officials have not released additional details regarding the cause of the accident, but investigators are considering the possibility of speed or driver error as contributing elements.

Family, friends, and neighbors remember Powers as a young man whose life was full of potential, now tragically cut short. Loved ones are left mourning a devastating loss, emphasizing the fragility of life and the importance of safety on rural roadways. Community members have expressed their condolences and support for Powers’ family during this difficult time.

Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution on rural roads, especially during early morning hours when visibility may be reduced and unexpected hazards, such as ditching or road curves, can pose a deadly risk. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing as the Texas Highway Patrol works to piece together the events leading to the fatal incident.
