72-year-old Dale Bradley Killed in Early Morning Head-On Crash in Charles County

A tragic head-on collision in Charlotte Hall, Maryland, claimed the life of a 72-year-old Virginia man early Thursday morning, leaving two communities in shock. The deadly crash occurred during the early commute hours and has sparked an ongoing investigation by state authorities. Family members are now grieving the sudden and heartbreaking loss of a loved one whose life ended far too soon.

According to the Maryland State Police, troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack responded around 6 a.m. on February 26 to Maryland Route 234, also known as Budds Creek Road, at Stines Store Road. Deputies from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office also arrived at the scene after reports of a serious two-vehicle crash. Due to the severity of the incident, the Maryland State Police CRASH Team later took over the investigation.

Preliminary findings show that a 2016 Mazda 6, driven by 22-year-old Nathan Cooper of Mechanicsville, was traveling westbound when it suddenly crossed the centerline. The vehicle then collided head-on with a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer traveling eastbound. The Blazer was driven by Dale Bradley, 72, of King George, Virginia. The impact of the crash was severe, causing significant damage to both vehicles.

Bradley suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said there was nothing emergency crews could do to save him. Cooper sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by the Maryland State Police Aviation Command helicopter, Trooper 7, to University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center in Largo. Officials reported that his injuries were serious but not considered life-threatening.

The sudden death of Bradley has left his family, friends, and neighbors devastated. Loved ones remember him as a valued member of the community in King George, Virginia. His passing has created a deep sense of loss as those who knew him struggle to cope with the unexpected tragedy.

Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing and will be presented to the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office for review once completed. Investigators are working to determine why the Mazda crossed into oncoming traffic and whether speed, distraction, or other factors played a role.
