According to Monroe County Coroner Jeff Hall, Wellman was pronounced dead at the scene near the intersection of South Rockport Road and West Stansifer Court. Her next of kin have been notified, and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause and manner of death.
Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at approximately 6:16 p.m. Preliminary reports indicate that a northbound Subaru crossed left of center into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with a Kia. A third vehicle, a Toyota, was also involved in the collision, adding to the severity of the incident.

The driver of the Toyota, a 58-year-old Bloomington man, sustained minor injuries and was also taken for treatment. Authorities have not yet released updates on the patients’ conditions.
Investigators with the Monroe County Major Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene, and South Rockport Road was closed for several hours while the crash was reconstructed. The investigation remains ongoing, with officials promising additional details as they become available. Early indications suggest the Subaru crossing the center line was a primary factor, but authorities continue to examine all circumstances leading to the crash.
