90-Year-Old Phyllis Profitt Killed in Rollover Crash in Campbell County

A 90-year-old woman lost her life Wednesday evening following a single-vehicle rollover crash in Campbell County, according to authorities. The tragic accident happened just after 6 p.m., leaving family members and the local community mourning the sudden loss.

The crash occurred around 6:15 p.m. on February 25, 2026, at the intersection of Richmond Highway and Scotts Farm Road. Virginia State Police responded to reports of a serious vehicle accident in the area. When troopers arrived, they found a heavily damaged pickup truck and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Officials say a 2020 Honda Ridgeline was traveling westbound on Richmond Highway in the left lane when it suddenly crossed the fog line and entered the median. For reasons that are still unclear, the vehicle then overturned multiple times. The violent rollover caused significant damage before the truck finally came to rest on the eastbound side of the roadway.

The driver was identified as Phyllis Matroni Profitt, 90, of Lynchburg. Authorities confirmed that she was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. Despite this, she suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Rollover crashes are often severe due to the force and repeated impact as a vehicle flips. Investigators typically examine road conditions, vehicle condition, speed, and any possible medical emergencies that may have contributed to such incidents. At this time, officials have not released additional details about what may have caused the truck to leave its lane.

The crash remains under active investigation by Virginia State Police. As the inquiry continues, loved ones remember Phyllis Profitt’s long life and the memories she leaves behind. Authorities are urging drivers to remain attentive and cautious on the roadways, especially at busy intersections where sudden movements can lead to tragic outcomes.
