A tragic pedestrian crash in the Varina area of Henrico County has claimed the life of a 43-year-old man, authorities confirmed. The incident happened Wednesday night along Nine Mile Road and is now under active investigation by Henrico Police.
According to officials, the Henrico County Department of Emergency Communications received a 911 call around 9:20 p.m. on February 25, 2026. The caller reported a suspicious situation involving a man walking in the middle of Nine Mile Road near Masonic Lane. While officers were on their way to the scene, the caller stated the man had been struck by a vehicle.
When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from obvious signs of trauma. Despite emergency response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was later identified as Torianno Lakeith Callahan, 43, of Henrico. His sudden death has left family members and loved ones mourning as investigators work to understand the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Preliminary findings from the Henrico Police Division Crash Team indicate that Callahan was walking in the roadway on Nine Mile Road when he was hit by a pickup truck. Authorities said the driver remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with investigators. At this time, police say drugs, alcohol, and speed do not appear to be factors on the part of the driver.
Investigators believe that Callahan may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash, though the investigation remains ongoing.
