TUCSON, Ariz. — The Tucson community is grieving the tragic loss of 56-year-old Griselda Josephine Houston, who died following a pedestrian crash Tuesday evening. The heartbreaking incident happened along a busy stretch of East Broadway Boulevard, leaving family members and neighbors mourning her sudden passing.
According to the Tucson Police Department, officers responded around 7:12 p.m. on February 24 to the 6200 block of East Broadway Boulevard near Wilmot Road. Investigators said Houston was attempting to cross on the south side of Broadway Boulevard when she was struck by an eastbound 2007 Nissan Titan pickup truck.
Authorities reported that Houston was not inside a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision. Police noted that the nearest designated crosswalk was approximately 380 feet away from where she was crossing. The impact left her with critical injuries, and emergency responders quickly transported her to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
Despite extensive lifesaving efforts by doctors and medical staff, Houston later succumbed to her injuries. Her death has deeply affected those who knew her, as loved ones struggle to cope with the loss of a woman remembered for her presence in the community.
Investigators determined that the 65-year-old driver of the Nissan Titan was impaired at the time of the crash. The driver was not injured in the incident.
