PARMA, Ohio — The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man who died following an officer-involved shooting in Parma as 29-year-old Ricardo Davis. The fatal encounter occurred Tuesday afternoon and has prompted an ongoing investigation led by an outside agency.
According to the Parma Police Department, officers initially responded to conduct a welfare check after receiving reports that Davis had made concerning statements. Authorities later located him driving in the area of Commerce Parkway and Brookpark Road. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop as part of their response.
The Brooklyn Police Department is leading the investigation into the shooting. Officials reported that when officers approached, Davis exited his vehicle while armed and did not comply with commands given by law enforcement. During the confrontation, an officer discharged their weapon, striking Davis.
Officers immediately began providing first aid at the scene until emergency medical crews arrived. Davis was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released additional information about the weapon he was reportedly carrying or the number of shots fired.
As is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings, the officers who discharged their weapons have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Officials stated that investigators will review body camera footage, physical evidence, and witness accounts to determine the full sequence of events.
The investigation remains active as authorities work to gather and analyze all available information. Community members are awaiting further updates while officials stress their commitment to a thorough and transparent review process. Additional details are expected to be released once investigators complete key steps in the case.
