ROWLAND HEIGHTS, Calif. — A 65-year-old man who was killed in a single-vehicle crash Monday morning in Rowland Heights has been identified by county authorities. The fatal collision caused major roadway damage and forced the temporary closure of a busy stretch of Fullerton Road as investigators worked at the scene.
According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, the victim was identified as Ezra Kang. Officials confirmed that Kang died at the scene of the crash, which was reported at approximately 8:26 a.m. Monday. The collision occurred on southbound Fullerton Road at Pathfinder Road, during what is typically a busy morning commute.
The California Highway Patrol stated that the crash involved only one vehicle. While authorities have not released specific details about what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway, they reported that the impact was powerful enough to knock down a utility pole and shear off a nearby fire hydrant. The extent of the damage indicated a significant force of impact.
Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene, securing the area and assessing both the wreckage and surrounding hazards. Due to the damage and ongoing investigation, southbound Fullerton Road was closed between Pathfinder Road and Sunrise Drive. The closure created traffic delays as drivers were rerouted around the affected area.
Officers and rescue personnel remained on scene for several hours as investigators documented evidence and utility workers addressed the downed pole and damaged hydrant. Officials have not indicated whether speed, a mechanical issue, or a possible medical emergency contributed to the crash. Authorities emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing as they work to determine the exact cause.
The roadway was reopened around 12:15 p.m. Monday after crews cleared the scene and completed their initial investigation. As the community reflects on the sudden loss, officials continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. The death of Ezra Kang serves as a somber reminder of how quickly tragedy can unfold on local roadways.
