67-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed in fatal Crash on 17th Street SE in Canton

The city of Canton is mourning the tragic loss of 67-year-old David Wine, who died after being struck by a vehicle Sunday evening in southeast Canton. The heartbreaking incident has left neighbors shaken and family members grieving as investigators work to determine exactly what happened.

According to the Canton Police Department, officers were dispatched around 6:15 p.m. to the 700 block of 17th Street SE following reports of a crash involving a pedestrian. When officers arrived, they found that a vehicle had struck a man who was walking in the roadway.

Preliminary findings indicate that a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling westbound on 17th Street SE when it hit the pedestrian. Investigators reported that David Wine was walking in the westbound lane at the time of the collision. The impact caused serious injuries, prompting emergency crews to rush him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Despite medical efforts to save him, Wine later succumbed to his injuries. His death has deeply affected the local community, with many expressing sorrow over the sudden loss of a longtime resident.
