The Rockford community is mourning the tragic loss of 23-year-old Taylor Rockwell, a devoted mother whose life was suddenly cut short following a severe car accident on I-39 last Thursday, November 6, 2025. After fighting for her life for several days, Taylor passed away on Monday morning, November 9, leaving her family and friends devastated.
The accident occurred just before 8:30 p.m. while Taylor was driving southbound. According to the Illinois State Police, she lost control of her vehicle, crossed the median, and collided with a semi-truck traveling in the northbound lane. First responders, including the Cherry Valley Fire Department, rushed her to a local hospital.
Despite the tireless efforts of the medical team to save her, Taylor was pronounced deceased. The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office determined her cause of death was an anoxic brain injury, meaning her brain suffered from a lack of oxygen during the crash. The investigation into the full circumstances of the accident is still ongoing by state police.
Taylor leaves behind two young sons, whom she cherished more than anything. Friends and family remember her as a loving daughter, a kind, compassionate soul, and a devoted mother. Her warm spirit, generosity, and beautiful laugh touched the lives of everyone around her, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
To help support Taylor’s heartbroken family during this incredibly difficult time, family friend Josey Richards has created a GoFundMe campaign. The goal is to raise funds to ensure Taylor can be “laid to rest beautifully” and to help support her two young children. Community contributions are warmly welcomed to honor her memory.
Though Taylor’s vibrant life was tragically cut short, her spirit of love, joy, and the beautiful memories she created will continue to live on forever. Her legacy of deep love will especially endure through the lives of her young sons, whom she loved unconditionally. Memorial service details will be shared once the family finalizes the arrangements.
