AKRON, Ohio — Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a 28-year-old man near the University of Akron’s InfoCision Stadium, a tragic incident that unfolded Tuesday morning and has left the community searching for answers. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Akron Police Department are working jointly to determine the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting.
According to officials, Akron police officers and EMS crews were dispatched around 10:30 a.m. on February 10 to a residence in the 500 block of Nash Street following reports of a shooting. When first responders arrived, they found a man lying on the living room floor with an apparent gunshot wound. The scene was immediately secured as emergency personnel assessed the situation.
The victim was identified as Daivan Floyd, 28. Despite emergency response efforts, Floyd was pronounced dead at 10:47 a.m., according to Summit County Medical Examiner Chief Investigator Gary Guenther. Authorities later confirmed that his death is being investigated as a homicide, marking another violent loss in the Akron community.
Police have not released details about what may have led up to the shooting or whether the victim knew the person responsible. Investigators spent hours at the residence collecting evidence and speaking with potential witnesses in the area. As of Wednesday, no arrests have been made, and detectives say the investigation remains active and ongoing.
The shooting occurred near a well-traveled area close to the University of Akron’s InfoCision Stadium, raising concerns among nearby residents and students.
