ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. — Authorities are investigating a shooting that occurred on February 7 in the 100 block of Jane Street, which has since led to the discovery of a deceased adult male. The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement works to piece together the events surrounding the incidents.
County 9-1-1 was initially notified at 11:07 a.m. on Sunday, February 8, about a female victim who had been shot. She was transported to a local hospital and listed in critical but stable condition. The Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit was called to assist and immediately began an investigation. Detectives later determined the shooting had occurred the previous evening, February 7, but was not reported until the next morning.
Through their investigation, police identified a suspect as 22-year-old Edward Sparrow. Detectives also learned that Sparrow had been involved in a single-vehicle crash at 8:17 p.m. on February 7 in the 100 block of Langer Way in Kennedy Township. When officers arrived at the scene of the crash, the vehicle was unoccupied.
Further investigation revealed that Sparrow was driving the crashed vehicle and that a witness reported seeing him jump over a guardrail on Langer Way following the accident. This discovery prompted a search in the surrounding area, including the steep hillside near the guardrail.
On the morning of February 9, detectives, in coordination with local fire departments, located a deceased adult male matching Sparrow’s description. Authorities said a formal identification will be made by the medical examiner’s office. Recovery operations are ongoing as emergency personnel work carefully to secure the site.
The case remains under active investigation. Police have not released additional details regarding the motive for the shooting or the circumstances of the crash. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information about either incident to contact the Allegheny County Police Department to assist with the investigation.
