71-Year-Old Miles Williams Killed in Fatal Jasper County Crash; Other Driver Seriously Injured

JASPER COUNTY, Ind. — A morning that began like any other on February 8, 2026, turned tragic after a fatal motor vehicle crash in Jasper County claimed the life of 71-year-old Miles Williams of DeMotte, Indiana, and left another man seriously injured. The collision occurred at approximately 8:54 a.m. CST at the intersection of State Road 110 and U.S. Highway 231, a scene that quickly drew emergency responders and left a community reeling.

According to initial reports, a 2015 white Ford F-250 driven by 46-year-old David Stahl, also of DeMotte, entered the fully marked four-way stop at U.S. Highway 231 while traveling eastbound on State Road 110. As Stahl proceeded through the intersection, his truck was struck by a southbound semi-tractor trailer operated by Williams. The impact caused the semi to leave the roadway and strike a NIPSCO utility pole. Witnesses and preliminary evidence indicate the semi failed to stop for the posted stop sign and flashing red lights, contributing to the severity of the crash.

Miles Williams was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities and family describe his passing as a profound loss. At 71, Williams was more than the driver in a tragic accident; he was a husband, father, friend, and valued member of the community. His death leaves a void in the lives of those who knew and loved him, a reminder of the fragile nature of life and the impact one individual can have on many.

David Stahl suffered serious injuries in the collision. He was airlifted by Lutheran Air to Christ Advocate Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois, where he is receiving treatment. Authorities confirmed that Stahl was wearing a seatbelt and that the airbags in his vehicle deployed. His ongoing recovery is being supported by loved ones, who continue to navigate the aftermath of a morning that changed their lives forever.

Investigators also noted that Williams was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and that the semi-tractor trailer did not have airbag deployment. The roadway remained closed for approximately five hours while multiple agencies, including the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, DeMotte Police, Keener Township Fire Department, and others, carefully processed the scene and cleared the wreckage.

As the investigation continues, the community reflects on the lives affected by this tragedy. Officials and residents alike are reminded of how quickly life can change. Miles Williams will be remembered not for the circumstances of his passing, but for the life he lived, the relationships he built, and the legacy he leaves behind. Families, friends, and neighbors are urged to support one another as they grieve and honor his memory.
