William Holley & Jakeisha Moore killed in Two different Weekend Selma Homicides

Authorities in Selma, Alabama, are investigating two separate homicides that occurred over the weekend, leaving the community in mourning and police working urgently to uncover answers. The incidents, which happened on Saturday and Sunday night, have heightened concerns about violence in the area and prompted renewed calls for community cooperation.

The first homicide took place on Saturday evening, when officers were called to the area of Philpot Avenue and Washington Street around 8 p.m. Upon arrival, police found a man later identified as 63-year-old William Holley, a Selma resident, who was unresponsive. Holley was pronounced dead at the scene. Police Chief Kenta Fulford confirmed that investigators are pursuing several leads and speaking with witnesses to determine what led to Holley’s death. No arrests have been made, and the motive remains unclear.

The second fatal incident occurred on Sunday around 9:40 p.m. Officers responded to reports of gunfire near Eugene Avenue and FD Reese Street. While en route, they spotted a vehicle driving toward the hospital with its hazard lights flashing. Inside was a gunshot victim, later identified as 34-year-old Jakeisha Moore, also of Selma. Despite immediate medical care, Moore succumbed to her injuries. As in the first case, no suspect information or motive has been released, but investigators are actively collecting evidence and conducting interviews.

Chief Fulford described both homicides as “tragic and deeply troubling” for Selma, assuring residents that the department is fully committed to bringing those responsible to justice. He urged citizens to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity, and share any details that might help investigators. “Even the smallest piece of information could make a difference,” Fulford said.

Residents with information are encouraged to contact the Selma Police Department at 334-874-5894 or submit anonymous tips to CrimeStoppers at 215-STOP. Authorities emphasized that cooperation from the public is essential in both cases, as witnesses and community members can provide critical insights that surveillance footage and forensic evidence alone may not reveal.

Both investigations remain active, with law enforcement continuing to review physical evidence, analyze ballistic reports, and re-interview witnesses. Chief Fulford extended condolences to the families of William Holley and Jakeisha Moore, acknowledging the pain their loved ones are experiencing. “Our community is hurting,” he said. “We must come together to ensure that justice is served and that Selma remains a safe place for everyone.”
