Jordan DeLaCruz Killed in Accidental Shooting at San Angelo Apartment, Friend Charged

SAN ANGELO, Texas — A Friday night incident at a San Angelo apartment complex turned deadly when an 18-year-old man was shot and killed, leading to the arrest of another teenager on a manslaughter charge. Police say the shooting happened during the reckless handling of a firearm inside an apartment.

According to the San Angelo Police Department, officers were called to the Windmill Apartments in the 1900 block of Raney Street at approximately 8:44 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026. The call reported a shooting victim inside one of the apartments, prompting an immediate response from officers and emergency crews.

When police arrived at the scene, they took 19-year-old Norberto Gonzales into custody without incident. Inside the apartment, officers found an 18-year-old male, later identified as Jordan DeLaCruz, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical responders transported DeLaCruz to Shannon Emergency Room in critical condition.

Despite medical efforts, DeLaCruz later died from his injuries at the hospital. Authorities confirmed his death later that evening. The loss of the young man has deeply impacted family members and friends, as investigators worked through the night to determine exactly what led to the shooting.

According to a preliminary investigation, police believe Gonzales and DeLaCruz were recklessly handling a handgun inside the apartment when the firearm accidentally discharged. The bullet struck DeLaCruz, causing the fatal injury. Investigators have not indicated that the shooting was intentional.

As a result of the investigation, Norberto Gonzales was arrested and charged with manslaughter. Police have not released further details about the relationship between the two young men or how the firearm was obtained. Authorities said no additional information is available at this time as the investigation remains ongoing. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of unsafe firearm handling and how quickly lives can be lost.
