CHARLOTTE, NC — A woman fatally shot Friday morning near a Bank of America branch in northwest Charlotte has been identified as Ina Michelle Lang, 50, a longtime employee of the bank. Lang worked as a Senior Banker and had been with Bank of America for more than 15 years, according to confirmations from her husband and friends on social media.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers responded shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 6, to reports of a shooting in a parking lot along Callabridge Court near Brookshire Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found Lang suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.
The shooting occurred near the Bank of America branch located at 9715 Callabridge Court. Police have classified the case as a homicide and said the investigation remains active. Officers immediately secured the area as detectives and crime scene investigators began collecting evidence and canvassing for witnesses throughout the day.
Later Friday evening, CMPD confirmed that a SWAT operation on Red Robin Street in west Charlotte was directly connected to the shooting. During that operation, a suspect was taken into custody. However, police have not released the suspect’s identity, possible charges, or details about how the individual is connected to Lang’s death.
Lang’s passing has prompted an outpouring of grief from coworkers and friends. A former coworker from Universal Orlando Resort Starbucks, where Lang worked earlier in her career, also confirmed her death in a social media post. Friends described her as kind, professional, and well-liked by those who worked alongside her. CMPD has not yet released additional personal details about the victim.
Police have stated that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Authorities are still working to determine the circumstances and motive behind the killing.
