Brooksville Man Dies in Tragic Three-Vehicle Crash on Blue Hill Road in Surry

SURRY — A deadly three-vehicle crash on Blue Hill Road Friday afternoon claimed the life of a Brooksville man and left two others injured, according to Maine authorities. The serious collision happened during daylight hours and drew a large emergency response to the scene.

The Maine Department of Public Safety said the crash occurred at approximately 2:44 p.m. Mark Nevells, 47, was driving a 2015 Subaru Forester northbound on Blue Hill Road when his vehicle crossed the center line for reasons still unknown. As a result, his car collided with two vehicles traveling southbound.

Officials identified the other vehicles as a 2018 Honda Fit and a 2024 Ram 2500 pickup truck. The impact involved all three vehicles and caused significant damage. Emergency crews, including law enforcement and medical personnel, were quickly dispatched after receiving reports of the crash.

Nevells sustained critical injuries as a result of the collision. Despite efforts by first responders to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that Nevells was a resident of Brooksville. His death marks a tragic loss for his family and the local community.

The drivers of the Honda Fit and the Ram 2500 were also injured in the crash. They were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment. Officials said both individuals were later released, indicating that their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Blue Hill Road experienced traffic disruptions as emergency crews worked to assist victims, clear the wreckage, and investigate the crash. Portions of the roadway were impacted while investigators documented the scene and gathered evidence to determine what led to the collision.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet said whether speed, distraction, medical issues, or other factors played a role in the vehicle crossing the center line. Officials are asking drivers to remain alert and cautious on the roads, reminding the public that a moment of inattention can have devastating consequences.
