21-Year-Old Turlock Woman Killed in Fog-Related Head-On Crash in Merced County

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. — Authorities have identified the young woman who was killed in a deadly head-on crash in Merced County Thursday morning as 21-year-old Amy Kisner of Turlock. The collision occurred during foggy conditions and has prompted renewed warnings from officials about the dangers of limited visibility on rural roads.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Oakdale Road near Fisher Road early Thursday. Investigators said Kisner was driving eastbound when she attempted to pass another vehicle. At the same time, a Chevrolet Suburban was traveling westbound in the opposite direction.

CHP officials said Kisner’s vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with the Suburban. The impact was severe, and Kisner suffered fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities confirmed. Dense fog in the area at the time of the crash is believed to have been a contributing factor.

The driver of the Suburban and three children who were inside the vehicle were injured in the crash. All four occupants were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Officials have not released details about the extent of their injuries or their current conditions.

The collision caused temporary road closures in the area as emergency crews worked to clear debris and investigators documented evidence at the scene. CHP officers examined vehicle damage, roadway markings, and visibility conditions as part of the ongoing investigation. No additional vehicles were involved.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash and is urging drivers to use extreme caution when driving in foggy conditions. Authorities remind motorists to reduce speed, avoid passing when visibility is limited, and use headlights appropriately. Kisner’s death is a tragic reminder of how quickly conditions can change on the road and the devastating consequences that can follow.
