23-Year-Old Mother Found Dead in Wagoner Home; Roommates Arrested

WAGONER, Okla. — Authorities are investigating the suspicious death of 23-year-old Cheyann Anderson, whose body was discovered early Thursday morning on the front porch of her home in the Whitehorn Cove area of Wagoner County. Anderson, a mother to a two-year-old daughter, was found by deputies after a 911 call reported a woman unresponsive at the residence.

Upon arrival, deputies found Anderson dead and covered in severe injuries. Investigators determined she had been beaten with a wooden bat and tased before her death. Wagoner County Sheriff Chris Elliott said that while the exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed, evidence from the scene strongly suggests her injuries were a significant factor. The final determination will be made after the medical examiner completes the autopsy.

Sheriff Elliott described the incident as tragic, noting Anderson’s young age and the violent circumstances surrounding her death. “She was only 23 years old, and for her to die like she did, it is just very, very tragic,” he said. Authorities are treating the death as a likely homicide, though the investigation remains ongoing.

In connection with the case, Anderson’s roommates, Christopher Zwirtz and Roberta Slagle, have been arrested on assault charges. Investigators say Slagle admitted to tasing Anderson during an altercation, while evidence indicates Anderson was beaten with a wooden bat. Both remain in custody at the Wagoner County Jail as authorities continue their investigation.

Anderson’s family is grieving her loss. Her grandmother described Cheyann as a happy, loving person from a good family who unfortunately lived with “evil people.” Her mother remembered her as someone who cherished life, her family, and her daughter. Born June 12, 2002, in St. Mary’s, Maryland, Anderson graduated from Porter High School and worked at McDonald’s, where she enjoyed helping others. She also loved the outdoors, including horseback riding, hunting, and fishing, and valued her role as a mother.

Investigators are continuing to gather evidence, including reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses. Sheriff’s officials urge anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation remains active as authorities work to determine the full circumstances of Anderson’s death and ensure justice for her family.
