Motorcyclist Killed in Downtown Phoenix Crash After Vehicle Turns Into His Path

PHOENIX — A 65-year-old man was killed Wednesday afternoon after his motorcycle collided with a passenger vehicle at a busy downtown Phoenix intersection, according to local authorities. The deadly crash happened shortly before 2 p.m. at the intersection of 7th Street and Grant Street, just north of Buckeye Road.

Phoenix police officers responded to the scene and found the motorcyclist, identified as Michael Pryor, suffering from critical injuries. Paramedics quickly transported him to a nearby hospital in an effort to save his life. Despite emergency medical treatment, Pryor later died from the injuries he sustained in the collision.

According to investigators, Pryor was traveling southbound on 7th Street when the crash occurred. At the same time, a passenger vehicle was traveling from Grant Street and attempted to make a left turn. Police said the vehicle crossed directly into Pryor’s path, leaving him little to no time to react before the motorcycle struck the car.

The force of the collision caused severe injuries to Pryor and brought traffic in the area to a standstill. Officers secured the intersection for several hours while investigators examined the scene, documented evidence, and spoke with witnesses. Portions of the roadway were temporarily closed as police worked to determine exactly how the crash unfolded.

Authorities said the driver of the passenger vehicle remained at the scene and fully cooperated with officers. No information has been released regarding whether the driver will face charges, and police have not indicated that impairment or excessive speed were factors at this stage of the investigation. The case remains under review as detectives continue to gather details.

Motorcycle crashes often result in serious or fatal injuries due to the lack of physical protection for riders, especially in busy urban areas with heavy traffic. Police are reminding drivers to remain alert at intersections and to carefully check for motorcycles before turning or changing lanes. The investigation into Pryor’s death remains ongoing, and officials have not released further information at this time.
