STANDISH, Maine — Authorities have identified the man killed during a late-night incident at a Standish residence earlier this week as Thomas Foster, 23, of Porter. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Foster died from a gunshot wound, and the death is being investigated as a homicide.
Deputies were called to a home on Kennie Drive at approximately 9:28 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, after receiving a report of an altercation. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they discovered an adult male who had died inside the residence. The situation prompted an immediate response from multiple agencies as officers worked to secure the area and begin an investigation.
A second adult male was also found at the scene suffering from injuries. Authorities said he was transported to a local hospital for treatment and that his injuries were not considered life-threatening. Officials have not released his identity or clarified his involvement in the incident as the investigation continues.
Due to the serious nature of the case, the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South was requested to assist the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators spent several hours processing the scene, collecting evidence, and interviewing individuals connected to the incident in an effort to determine what led to the fatal shooting.
Foster’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy was later conducted. According to authorities, the medical examiner determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide. This confirmation elevated the case to a full homicide investigation.
Law enforcement officials stressed that there is no danger to the public, indicating the incident appears to be isolated. However, detectives continue to work actively on the case and have not announced any arrests or charges at this time. Officials said more information will be released as it becomes available, and anyone with relevant details is encouraged to contact law enforcement as the investigation remains ongoing.
