16-Year-Old Isiah Cooper killed in fatal Kenosha Shooting Near Library Park

KENOSHA, Wis. — Authorities have identified the teenager killed in a shooting near Library Park Wednesday night as Isiah Cooper, 16, as the Kenosha community continues to grapple with the deadly violence. The shooting happened near the intersection of 6th Avenue and 60th Street, just one block from the park, an area neighbors describe as usually calm and family-oriented.

According to the Kenosha Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene shortly before 8:00 p.m. after receiving reports of multiple people shot. When police arrived, they discovered three victims suffering from injuries. Cooper had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency efforts. The sudden loss of life has left residents shaken and searching for answers.

Police said a 19-year-old man also sustained gunshot wounds in the incident and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. A 15-year-old boy was transported to the hospital with a serious head injury. Authorities have not released updates on their current conditions but confirmed both survived the shooting. The violent encounter drew a heavy police response and temporarily disrupted the surrounding neighborhood.

Investigators arrested two suspects shortly after the shooting — a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man — at a nearby residence. Police have not shared details about what led up to the shooting or how the victims and suspects may be connected. Officials said the investigation is ongoing as detectives work to piece together the events that unfolded.

Police emphasized that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the community. Still, the sound of gunfire in a residential area has raised concerns among residents, many of whom said they never expected something so tragic to happen so close to their homes and a popular public park.

The Kenosha Unified School District confirmed that all three victims attend schools within the district. Cooper was a student at Bradford High School, while the two injured teens attend Indian Trail High School. District officials said counseling and support services are being made available to students and staff affected by the tragedy as the community mourns the loss of a young life.
