PUEBLO, Colo. — Authorities in Pueblo have identified the man discovered dead near Lake Minnequa early Saturday morning as 31-year-old Santana D. Lucero, according to the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office. His death marks the 13th homicide in Pueblo County in 2025, continuing a troubling rise in violent incidents across the area.
Police say the call came in around 1:05 a.m. on November 9, reporting a deceased individual in the 2500 block of Lakeshore Drive. When officers arrived, they were guided by witnesses to the victim’s location. Detectives from the Crimes Against Persons Section were soon called in to take over the scene, launching a full homicide investigation.
Authorities confirmed that Lucero’s death is being investigated as a homicide, but initial findings suggest the incident was isolated and not a random act of violence. The exact cause and manner of death have not been publicly disclosed, pending further investigation and autopsy results. Police emphasized that while no arrests have yet been made, they are pursuing multiple leads and gathering evidence to determine what led to the killing.
Investigators are urging anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to come forward. Detective Hector Herrera can be reached directly at 719-601-7023, and anonymous tips may be submitted through Pueblo Crime Stoppers at 719-542-STOP (719-542-7867) or via pueblocrimestoppers.com. Officials noted that even minor observations could prove vital in piecing together the events leading to Lucero’s death.
Lucero’s death follows a series of recent homicides in Pueblo. On November 1, two 20-year-olds — Bryce Woolery and Eric Torres — were killed in separate but nearly simultaneous incidents. Those cases marked the city’s 11th and 12th homicides of the year. By comparison, Pueblo had recorded 17 homicides by this time in 2024, with 20 total by year’s end. Despite the concerning trend, authorities insist they are working diligently to prevent further violence and bring justice to victims’ families.
As the investigation continues, police have increased patrols around Lake Minnequa to reassure residents. Community leaders and local residents have expressed deep concern and sadness, calling for unity and cooperation with law enforcement. Authorities extended their condolences to Lucero’s loved ones, reaffirming their commitment to solving the case and ensuring safety throughout Pueblo.
